Winter
December 20 - March 20
The Winter Season starts during the Winter Solstice (December 20th), and ends during the Spring Equinox (March 20th). I will be including ideas for Holiday's such as Christmas, Yule, Imbolc, New Years Eve, Valentine's Day, and St Patrick's Day. Celebration ideas might include burning a Yule log, hanging mistletoe and holly branches, giving gifts, Christmas trees, the eating of ham, the hanging of boughs, initiations, rededication, and pledges for the coming year, hearthfires, feasts, candles, spirits and beer, and bonfires.
Hidden Gifts
A fun tradition to start with your family is to hide a small gift for each person inside ornaments on your Yule tree. These are to be found and given out on Boxing Day, when you take your tree down.
Citrus Pomanders
Oranges, lemons, and limes (grapefruit skins are too thick)
Whole cloves
Ribbon for hanging
Wrap ribbon around the citrus, so it can hang nicely, and securely. Push cloves decoratively into visible rind of citrus. Hang or place in pretty glass bowl.
Holiday Potpourri
Orange rind, grated or thinly julienned and dried
Whole cloves
Cinnamon sticks, broken into chunks
Small pinecones
Holly leaves, dried
Pineneedles
Thin red apple slices with skin, dehydrated
Toss all ingredients into clear decrative glass bowl and set out of reach from children. Add essential oils of orange, cinnamon, clove, or pine to refresh.
